Quarterly Character Strengths

Each quarter, Feaster Charter School students learn more about two new character strengths. Throughout the quarter, teachers work to recognize these character strengths in the students and help them see these strengths within themselves and other learners:

Quarter One

Social Intelligence:  I am able to find solutions during conflict, I show that I care about others’ feelings. I adapt to social situations

Emotional Self Control: I am flexible and resilient, I allow others to speak without interruptions

I am polite, I am able to remain calm and work to resolve a conflict peacefully


 

Quarter Two

Curiosity: I am eager to explore new things, I ask questions , I take an active interest in learning 

Self Control (School Work): I follow directions, I come to class prepared, I pay attention and resist distractions, I am focused on my work , I complete my work to the best of my ability 

 

Quarter Three

Zest: I actively participate, I show enthusiasm, I approach new situations with excitement and energy

Gratitude: I notice when others help, I show appreciation for the goods things in my life, I do nice things to thank others, I say “thank you”


 

Quarter Four

Grit: I try hard even after experiencing failure, I keep working hard even when I feel like quitting, I follow through on my commitments , I stick with a project and finish it to the best of my ability, I stay committed to my goals

Optimism: I believe my effort will improve my future, I believe that I can improve with practice,
I stay motivated even when things don’t go my way

AVID is being offered to all students in grades 5-8 at Feaster Charter. By providing time to develop leadership skills, reflect on learning, master communication and articulation skills and complete inquiry based projects, our students at Feaster Charter are developing the soft skills that are needed to be successful in post secondary school and any future careers. Dual Immersion 

What is Dual Immersion?
  • A two-way Bilingual program where students learn Spanish and English 
  • The program ideally begins with the student in kindergarten and continues progressively until the student is promoted from the program
  • The program is designed based on the needs of each learner 
  • Ideally requires an even blend of English dominant students and Spanish dominant students in order to support a collaborative learning environment 
What Does Dual Immersion Look Like at Feaster Charter?
  • TK, K-5th Grade Dual Immersion Program
  • K-3rd Grade students receive part of their instruction in Spanish & half their instruction in English
  • 4th - 5th  Grade students receive an average of 80 minutes of instruction per day in Spanish Language  Arts, which includes Spanish during select Mindlabs classes. 
  • All 3rd - 5th grade DI students have the opportunity to take an additional 45-minute Elective Class 4 days a week. 
What Are the Goals of Dual Immersion?
  • Students will be proficient in both Spanish and English
  • Students will commit to 7 years in the Dual Immersion Program in order to maximize achievement goals
  • Students will demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors

Mindlabs After School Clubs

Clubs will run from 3:15-3:45pm on the days below. Students need to be picked up at the front of the school by 3:45pm or they may be dropped from the club.

Dance Viani 1402 2nd Wednesday This club is an extension of the Feaster elective dance class. This extension will provide more of an opportunity for students to dive deeper into the foundations of dance per the California State Standards and National Dance Standards.
Green Team Diaz 301 2nd-3rd Tuesday If your child is interested in helping the planet and “going green”, he or she should join the Feaster Green Team! The Feaster Green Team will meet on Tuesdays to brainstorm ways to make Feaster a more earth-friendly school! 
Makerspace Rivaldi 501 2nd-3rd Wednesday In the Makerspace club, students create their own imagined designs and different arts and crafts activities in the Makerspace.
Art Club Treter 1403 2nd-3rd Monday Come enjoy learning various art skills with an assortment of mediums in a relaxed, after-school environment. Make new friends while exploring and expressing your creativity in a safe, sharing, collaborative environment.
Musical Theater Movement- Viani 1402 2nd-3rd Monday 2nd/3rd Grade- Come and join us to learn how to dance and perform within a theatrical song! Musical theater is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting and dance. If you love to sing and dance along to “Let it Go” this is the club for you!
Ukulele Club Huscher 1401 2nd-8th Friday Open to all grade levels, students will learn to play ukulele both in a group and solo. 
Choir Club Huscher 1401 3rd-5th Tuesday This club will serve as an intro to singing in choir. Students will learn basics of singing in parts and explore choral music. 
You Tube Science! Diaz 301 4th-5th Wednesday Do you LOVE watching YouTube videos with crazy science experiments? In this club, we will explore and recreate AWESOME science trends made famous on YouTube. Water bottle flipping? YES! Fidget spinners? LET"S DO IT! Mentos and Coke? You BET!

Jazz Dance Viani 1402 4th-5th Tuesday Wanna learn all those cool popular moves you see on TV? Jazz dance club will explore the fun and high energy stylizations of jazz which was originally rooted in African tribal dancing. “So you think you wanna jazz” is here!
Tech Club Mislan 1303 4th-6th Monday Technology Club Grades 4,5 and 6th -  Are you interested in Coding, Flying Drones, 3d Modeling and/or 3d Printing?  This is the club for you!
Science Community Service Club Diaz 301 4th-8th Friday Students participate in both meaningful and FUN science projects around the school to earn community service hours towards their yearly community service requirement. Possible science projects include lunch waste reduction, school garden, composting, Earth Day projects, helping in the Science Lab and MUCH more!  
Sewing Club Rivaldi 501 4th-8th Monday Students will learn how to crochet/knit and sew in this club.  It is open to 4th-8th Graders and meets on Mondays.
Band Club Huscher 1401 5th-8th Monday Students will learn fundamentals of playing band instruments and learn basics of playing in an ensemble. 
Feaster Farm Care Diaz 301 6th-8th Monday Students in this club explore and assist with the Feaster Farm, including caring for chickens and garden areas.
Choir Club Huscher 1401 6th-8th Wednesday Students will learn to sing in parts and work together as a choral ensemble while building on skills and exploring various choral music.

Hip Hop Dance Viani 1402 6th-8th Friday Learn popularized hip hop and pop movements seen in music videos and even our Broadway shows today, such as “Hamilton”. The culture of hip hop is wide and vast stemming from various cities across the U.S. and still finds itself evolving today!
Anime Club Mislan 1303 7th-8th Friday Anime/Pop Culture Club 7th and 8th Only – Explore cinema movies and anime that address interesting issues in artistic form.  You will get a chance to experience movies as well as culture revolving around selected pieces and discuss as well as create projects based around these.
